Our Color Sorters

We work with several manufacturers — primarily with Cimbria SEA and CSort, and for certain specialized sorters, we also work with IST and ASM.

Cimbria and CSort offer several models of color sorters, which we present to you in the following overview ordered by price.

Color Sorter Specification
SEA.IQ PLUS from Cimbria Premium full color sorter since 2022, RGB and NIR camera in one, optionally multifrequency NIR-InGaAs cameras. Especially recommended for producers of gluten-free goods (oats, peas) and eventually for seeds.
SEA.XE by Cimbria New standard model from Cimbria featuring all the capabilities of the previous premium true-color sorter, the SEA.CX (Chromex). Available since October 2026, like the SEA.IQ Plus with an integrated RGB and NIR camera, and optional multi-wavelength NIR InGaAs cameras.
Top-of-the-line European engineering at the price of the previous base model, the SEA.TN. Currently available with 2, 4, or 6 chutes.
Smartsort C from CSort Full color sorter with high camera resolution, geometry function and optional NIR cameras. Compact, user-friendly and ideal for smaller producers, easy products like grain with ergot or limited space.

Laboratory Machine

Model Description
Globe from ASM
Eureka from ASM
Laboratory machines that are only 1.10 m tall and have chute widths ranging from 7 to 14 cm. Particularly suitable for fine seeds, seed breeding operations, or companies with low production volumes. RGB cameras on both sides, optionally with NIR and NIR-InGaAs.
The Eureka has been available for years; the Globe is the slightly more expensive successor model, which has been on the market since fall 2026.

Special Case

Model Description
SEA.XL from Cimbria (from end of 2025) Sorting machine with a NIR hyperspectral camera for material recognition, designed for plastics and, in some cases, nuts. Working widths: 630 or 1260 mm. It uses RGB (true color) cameras positioned at the front and back.

We can offer the optimal solution for every sorting case. What fits in each case depends on your products – we find out together through discussions and tests.

Use of Color Sorters

Color sorting machines are used for cleaning products in the food, seed and plastic sectors. They recognize color differences using RGB or NIR cameras and sort precisely via compressed air jets.

Typical applications: legumes, nuts, coffee beans, rice, cereals, colored berries, seeds and plastic flakes.

Recognition

True-color and NIR cameras are standard today—sometimes even combined in a single camera.
Optionally, NIR InGaAs cameras can be installed, which are particularly useful for separating grains with and without husks (e.g., wheat and barley, or spelt after dehulling) or for sorting out grains infected with Fusarium. Multi-wavelength NIR InGaAs cameras combine multiple detection points in the near-infrared range and can sometimes further improve detection. In some cases, the combination of RGB and NIR InGaAs cameras is particularly effective for demanding separation tasks.
Another option is the use of UV lighting; this achieves better sorting results, particularly for oats, corn, and coffee.

Accuracy in Ejection

Precision depends not only on detection, but also on the precise control of the solenoid valves. Optimal adjustment of delay times and shot durations results in fewer and more concentrated rejects.

Training the Programs

Currently, AI-assisted creation of sorting programs is being heavily promoted. This feature has been integrated into all our models since the fall of 2026, although we also see significant differences — not all AI is created equal. It doesn’t necessarily have to be used — especially if you don’t use that many programs, we’ll create the programs for you anyway, and if this is done the traditional way by adjusting color parameters (typically Hue, Saturation, and Value), subsequent adjustments for the new harvest are often easier to make than when using AI.
Please don’t underestimate how important good mechanical settings are for the color sorter—we provide our customers with extensive training on this.
